Yaw Abu, Vice President
email: [email protected]
Yaw is a student in Ezra Stiles College, currently in the class of 2017, and majoring in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. He went to Costa Rica in the fall of his sophomore year to volunteer with FIMRC. While in Costa Rica, Yaw worked at a clinic in a small town called Alajuelita. Alajuelita is home to many Nicaraguan immigrants who do not qualify for Costa Rica's universal healthcare. The clinic he worked at gave these immigrants the medication and medical services they needed, free of charge. In addition to working at the health clinic, Yaw also volunteered in a nearby soup kitchen. There, he helped to prepare native dishes, and in his free time practiced Spanish with other Costa Ricans. His time volunteering in Costa Rica showed him just how much could be accomplished through collaboration and proper guidance. Yaw is ecstatic about creating a FIMRC chapter at Yale, and hope to recruit a plethora of new members.
